About the 2017 Competition

 

 

The Golden Key Music Festival is proud to announce the fourth annual Debut International Piano Competition. The Competition is designed to provide talented pianists with the opportunity to perform a solo piano recital at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall) on West 57th Street in New York City.

 

Age Categories

For the 2017 Competition, a distinguished panel of judges will evaluate applicants in three age categories:

  • Junior – up to 14 years old
  • Senior – from 15 to 18 years old
  • Professional – 19 and older

Winners and Recitals

In each of the three age categories, our judges will select:

  • First Degree Winner
  • Second Degree Winner
  • Third Degree Winner
  • Honorable Mention Winners

FIRST DEGREE winners will receive a First Degree Diploma, a Commemorative Carnegie Hall Medal, and be featured in a solo performance of up to 30 minutes at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Each first degree winner will also receive thirty minutes of rehearsal time in Carnegie Hall on performance day. A poster with the winners’ portraits will be displayed on the wall outside Carnegie Hall, and audience members will receive a special concert program to celebrate the performance with an article and picture featuring the winners. The winners’ pictures and programs will also appear on the Carnegie Hall web site.

SECOND DEGREE winners will receive a Second Degree Diploma, a Commemorative Carnegie Hall Medal, and be featured in a solo performance of up to 15 minutes at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Second degree winners will be allowed a 30 minute stage rehearsal at Carnegie Hall on performance day and be featured in a special concert program with their picture and a brief biography. The winners’ pictures and programs will also appear on the Carnegie Hall web site.

THIRD DEGREE winners will receive a Third Degree Diploma, a Commemorative Carnegie Hall Medal, and be featured in a solo performance of one music selection of up to 12 minutes at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The piece will be selected from the audition program by the Debut Competition Jury panel. Winners will also be allowed a 20 minute stage rehearsal at Carnegie Hall on performance day and be featured in a special concert program with their picture and a brief biography.

Vienna: Additional Performance Opportunity for First, Second, and Third Degree Debut Laureates

The Golden Key Music Festival of Vienna and Vienna International Piano Academy  are inviting winners in the First, Second and Third degrees  also to perform in Debut Winners Recital at Ehrbaar Hall (Vienna, Austria) in August 2017. To register for this performance, contact us at debutatcarnegie@gmail.com before April 1, 2017. The winners of the Debut International Piano Competition are welcome to attend the Vienna Festival’s tour.

HONORABLE MENTION winners will receive Diplomas from the Golden Key Music Festival. In addition, all applicants who do not win Debut International will be considered equally with all applicants to the Golden Key Music Festival, and placed according to their level in the appropriate Winners’ Recital, including Gold, Silver, Super Bronze, Bronze, and Achievement. Alternatively, they may be selected to participate in the week-long Golden Key Music Festival of Vienna, Austria with special performances at historical Ehrbarsaal and Mozarthaus. These applicants will not be subject to an additional application fee for consideration in multiple competitions.
