The intent of the Golden Key Piano Composition Competition is to encourage creativity and self-expression in student musicians through the art of composing and to recognize on International scale their achievements as well as the significant work of their teachers. The Competition is affiliated with the Golden Key International Music Festival.

Competition is open for composers age 5 through 26 years old. A composition submitted for the Competition may be in any style and should be originally written for piano. Compositions for prepared piano are not permitted.

Age categories:

  • Elementary (age 5-10)
  • Junior (age 11-14)
  • Senior (age 15 – 18)
  • Young Artist (age 19 – 26)

Awards:

  • Winners in each category will receive Diploma in First, Second, Third degree, Achievement Diploma
  • Selected winners’ compositions will be included in the program of the Golden Key of Vienna International Music Festival and performed at the World Young Composers’ recital in Vienna, Austria (July 2010);
  • top winner in each of four age categories will receive $500.00 scholarship toward his trip to Vienna for the Golden Key of Vienna 2010 International Music Festival;
  • Winner’s teacher will be awarded by Certificate of Excellence;

Submission Requirements:

  • A fully realized score, completely notated by the composer, is required. The manuscript must be in the form of a computer printout or in handwriting.
  • Composition’s performance time should not exceed 5(five) minutes.
  • Composition that includes a copyrighted text must be accompanied by a written statement from the copyright holder given permission to use the text. If the text is in the public domain, a statement signed by teacher and student indicating this fact must accompany the entry.
  • Measures of the composition must be numbered, preferably at the beginning of each system.
  • A composition must have title.
  • The name of the student-composer or teacher must not appear on the score. No change may be made to the manuscript once it has been submitted.

Although it is not required, a composer may attached to the manuscript recorded on CD/DVD performance of the composition.

Any composition that does not meet the Submission Requirements may be disqualified. The manuscript will be kept by the Golden Key Music Festival, Inc. The Golden Key Music Festival, Inc. is not responsible for lost or damaged manuscript or parts.

Composer-winner is welcome to perform his/her composition in Vienna. For information on how to participate in the Golden Key of Vienna Music Festival visit our website at www.goldenkeyfestival.com (Golden Key of Vienna). Otherwise the composition will be performed by a professional musician.
